Lily Tomlin gets some New Ink in First Trailer for 'Grandma'
Not that Lily Tomlin ever stopped being funny, she's terrific in just about everything she pops up in,
but right now she's in the middle of a career renaissance. She and co-star Jane Fonda are receiving great reviews right now for their Netflix series, Grace and Frankie, which has already been renewed for a second season. But Tomlin also made a splash earlier this year at Sundance for her acerbic performance in Grandma, a new dramedy from writer/director Paul Weitz.
Tomlin puts her sharp wit to good use as Elle Reid, a misanthropic lesbian poet who has just broken up with her much-younger girlfriend (Judy Greer) while still grieving over the death of her longtime partner. Elle gets thrown for a loop with the sudden arrival of her 18-year-old granddaughter (Julia Garner) who is in desperate need of help only she can provide. Orange is the New Black's Laverne Cox shows up as an old friend, and in this trailer we see her giving Tomlin a brand new tattoo.
Also starring Nat Wolff, Sam Elliott, Marcia Gay Harden, and John Cho, Grandma hits theaters on August 15th.
