Robert Downey Jr. May Play an Infamous Con Man in 'Chasing Phil'

It's tough to imagine anybody other than Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, and a large part of Marvel's big screen dominance is owed to him. However, outside of the Sherlock Holmes movies Downey hasn't faced anything close to the same level of success. He's hoping that will change his next project, an adaptation of David Howard's book, Chasing Phil: The World’s Greatest Con Man, Two Undercover FBI Agents, and Their Amazing Around the World Adventure.

Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the non-fiction book and will work with Team Downey to develop it as a potential starring vehicle for Downey as infamous conman Philip Kitzer Jr.  The story centers on FBI agents Jim Wedick and Jack Brennan who pursued Kitzer as he masterminded numerous lucrative scams that netted him millions of dollars. The life rights to Wedick and Brennan were also acquired by the studio.

This is pretty early as there are no writers or a director attached yet, but with Downey on board it shouldn't be hard to attract top talent. [Variety]
