Rocky Passes On His Knowledge in the Knockout First Trailer for 'Creed'
Of all the paths rising star director Ryan Coogler could have taken after his acclaimed Fruitvale Station, the least likely is Creed. A reunion with his breakout companion Michael B. Jordan was inevitable, but in a film that basically serves as a Rocky sequel that doesn't necessarily focus on the legendary boxer? It's a strange choice, but with Coogler, Jordan, and Sylvester Stallone working together the potential for it to be something special was definitely there. And now the first trailer has been released and this is one boxing drama that looks ready to deliver a total knockout.
Stallone is back in his most iconic role, and this time he's using his skills in the ring to train a talented young fighter who happens to be the son of his legendary rival, Apollo Creed. This footage looks less like a franchise studio film and more like a smaller, dramatic piece similar to Fruitvale Station. It's Coogler's strength, and he also knows how to bring out the best in Jordan who looks like he may be giving a possible awards-worthy performance.
Also starring Tessa Thompson , boxer Anthony Bellew, and Phylicia Rashad, Creed enters the ring on November 25th.
