Tom Hanks to Play Hero Pilot Sully Sullenberger in Clint Eastwood's Biopic

At 85 years old, Clint Eastwood doesn't have time to sit around and take his time. When it comes to turning a project around he's one of the fastest in Hollywood, and he's not wasting any time in casting his recently-announced biopic on pilot hero, Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger. Deadline reports that Tom Hanks has entered talks for the lead role, mere days after the film was announced.

The untitled film is adapted by Todd Komarnick and based on Sullenberger's memoir that recounts the 2009 "Miracle on the Hudson" in which he successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after the plane was disabled. In the process he saved more than 150 passengers and became a national hero and instant celebrity. Post-retirement he would use that fame to champion specific causes, including better working conditions and pay for pilots.

Hanks' next film is Steven Spielberg's Cold War thriller, Bridges of Spies. He also returns to the role of symbologist Robert Langdon in Ron Howard's Inferno, and he recently filmed Tom Tykwer's A Hologram for the King. He's currently eyeing the lead role in James Ponsoldt's thriller, The Circle.
