Could the Next 'Indiana Jones' Movie Arrive in 2018?

It doesn't take a genius to know that Disney and Lucasfilm will give us some kind of Indiana Jones film soon. Whether that's a true sequel with Harrison Ford or a reboot with Chris Pratt, the franchise is too popular and too lucrative to lay dormant for long. Last month, people got way too excited over producer Kathleen Kennedy's claim that an Indiana Jones movie "will one day be made" and that talks had begun although a script hadn't been started. Basically, that the project has been mentioned, nothing more.

Well now there are conflicting stories on Lucasfilm's actual progress on a new Indiana Jones movies. The first comes from producer Frank Marshall, a frequent commenter on the state of the franchise, who tells Slashfilm that no talks on the project have begun at all...

So that’s just Internet rumor?

Frank Marshall: Yeah. I mean, we’ve had no discussions on Indy 5 to date.

It doesn't seem credible that absolutely no talks have been had at all, right? But maybe he's parsing his words here a little bit? Maybe there haven't been any talks about Indiana Jones 5, but what about a reboot or remake?

And then there's AICN who have an inside source at Lucasfilm who say that a new Indiana Jones movie is arriving in the fourth quarter of 2018. There's nothing of substance to back that up so it has to be considered a rumor. Could it happen? Sure, it's possible, and Star Wars will be moving along at its own momentum by that point. But would there be time for Pratt to involved? How would that even be possible with a Guardians of the Galaxy sequel coming in 2017, another record-breaking franchise in Jurassic World, plus his other projects.

Whatever happens, an Indiana Jones movie is worth too much money to sit around gathering dust.
