'Uncharted' Film Set Back Again as Seth Gordon Exits
For whatever reason, Sony just can't seem to get going on an adaptation of best-selling video game, Uncharted. It's not for lack of trying or the absence of talent, either. Mark Wahlberg was set to star back when his buddy David O. Russell was directing, but then they both left and Neil Burger (Divergent) came aboard. Then he departed and things seemed to get moving with Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and screenwriter Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty) gearing up the film for a release next year. Well...don't count on any of that happening now.
Gordon is the latest director to exit the Indiana Jones-esque adventure film, and the reason can be boiled down to a combination of budget and creative differences. Sony wanted to scale things back considerably, Gordon obviously wasn't too cool with that, and now the project is back at square one.
So now the search is on for a new director and an A-list star. Chris Pratt turned it down some time ago so he's out of the picture, and while Nathan Fillion (Serenity) has long been the fan choice to play hero Nathan Drake, producers are going to want a bigger name. [TheWrap]
