"Without question I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other’s movies. I think the most exciting thing in superhero movies, until The Avengers came along, was when Nick Fury showed up in Iron Man. Even though it was a guy with an eye patch it was really cool – and I expect we will see more of that.”
That was Mark Millar a couple of years ago basically saying that 20th Century Fox would definitely crossover their X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, because that's the way these movies work nowadays. While we've heard producer Simon Kinberg talking about a shared continuity between them, the first rumors about an actual release date for an FF/X-Men movie arrives today from Latino Review.
The site says that assuming Josh Trank's Fantastic Four doesn't completely crap the bed this summer, and X-Men: Apocalypse is as successful as many expect it to be next year, then the two superhero teams will collide in the open slot they've set aside for 2018. Obviously it's too early to start talking about specifics as this whole thing could amount to nothing, but we can assume it will reunite the cast of Trank's film with whoever is left standing in this revamped X-Men universe.
We already know 20th Century Fox will be bringing the X-Men to Comic-Con next month and screening the "Rogue Cut" of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Could they be dropping some major announcements about this crossover, as well?
