Adrien Brody to romance Chinese Star Ni Ni in 'Manhattan Love Story'

Adrien Brody may have won an Oscar here in the U.S., but as of right now he's probably a bigger star in China. He recently joined with John Cusack and Jackie Chan for the Chinese historical epic, Dragon Blade, which was a smash hit in China and opens stateside this September. And now he's continuing that close association with the Far East by leading another major production, only this time it's a New York-based romantic comedy.

Brody is set to join Chinese superstar Ni Ni for Manhattan Love Story, a film that Brody will also produce alongside the China-backed Hero Films production house. Andy Tennant (Hitch) will direct, having co-written the screenplay with Brody and Rick Parks. Ni Ni is best known for her role in Zhang Yimou's epic, The Flowers of War, which starred Christian Bale.

Manhattan Love Story centers on, you guessed it, two people from vastly different cultures who meet and fall in love in modern-day New York City. She's Chinese, he's Italian, and yet they overcome a number of comic mishaps to find a connection.

Filming is to begin next month in New York. [Deadline]
