Check out the first Six Minutes of 'Disney's Descendants'

Always looking for new ways to capitalize on their vault of classic animated fairy tales, Disney is set to premiere the made-for-TV movie, Descendants, and yes it's another live-action reimagining. However, in this case it's not a typical remake, instead Descendants follows the teenage children of popular fairy tale villains Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar.

Disney has debuted the first six minutes to get you up to speed on what to expect, and basically it looks like many of the network's teen movies, perhaps because it was directed by High School Musical's Kenny Ortega.

The film stars Dove Cameron as Mal, the daughter of Maleficent played by Kristin Chenoweth; Sofia Carson as Evie, with Kathy Nijimy as her mother the Evil Queen; Cameron Boyce is Carlos, son of Cruella de Vil played by Wendy Raquel Robinson; and Booboo Stewart is Jay, the son of Jafar, played by Maz Jobrani.

The Disney Channel airs Descendants on July 31st. Here's the synopsis, followed by the footage.

In a present day idyllic kingdom, Disney’s Descendants follows the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from Disney’s iconic Beauty and the Beast), who is poised to take the throne. His first proclamation: offer a chance at redemption to the trouble-making offspring of Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar who have been imprisoned on a forbidden island with all the other villains, sidekicks, evil step-mothers and step-sisters. These villainous descendants (Carlos, Mal, Evvie and Jay, respectively) are allowed into the kingdom to attend prep school alongside the offspring of iconic Disney heroes including Fairy Godmother, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel and Mulan. However, the evil teens face a dilemma. Should they follow in their nefarious parents’ footsteps and help all the villains regain power or embrace their innate goodness and save the kingdom?
