Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard Returning for 'Jurassic World' Sequel in 2018

Remember back when Universal was having problems mounting its fourth Jurassic Park film, even going so far as to put the project on a temporary hiatus? It really wasn't that long ago, but considering that Jurassic World is now the 3rd highest-grossing movie of all-time, it may as well have been a lifetime ago. And so it's no surprise that Universal is officially moving forward with a sequel, which they've already set a date for.

The Jurassic World sequel has been set for June 22nd 2018, and of course stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are coming back for more dino action. Steven Spielberg retains his place as the franchise's producer, while director Colin Trevorrow recently confirmed he wouldn't be returning. He'll stick around long enough to co-write the screenplay along with his frequent writing partner, Derek Connolly.

It remains to be seen if any of the surviving cast members will be back, but given how dominant Jurassic World proved to be, Universal may want to keep as many pieces in place as possible.

Here's the full press release:

Executive producer Steven Spielberg and stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return for Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s JURASSIC WORLD SEQUEL, a follow-up to one of the biggest blockbusters in the history of cinema.  Producer Frank Marshall once again joins Spielberg in leading the team of filmmakers for the next chapter in the franchise.  The film will be written by Jurassic World’s director, Colin Trevorrow, and Derek Connolly.  Spielberg will be joined by Trevorrow as executive producer.
