Brie Larson sets Sail to 'Kong: Skull Island'; Russell Crowe eyed for Role
Brie Larson has only occasionally dabbled in mainstream films, and they were mostly in the realm of comedy. She had a role in 21 Jump Street and can currently be seen opposite Amy Schumer in Judd Apatow's Trainwreck, but for the most part she sticks to smaller films like Short Term 12 and Digging for Fire. However now she's headed squarely into studio territory as Deadline reports she's landed the female lead in Legendary's Kong: Skull Island.
Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) with a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein, the film will thrust audiences into the dangerous island home of King Kong, recently glimpsed in Peter Jackson's film. The two movies aren't connected at all, though, as this one is said to take place in the 1970s. Larson's role has yet to be revealed, but she will join the previously-cast Tom Hiddleston. Meanwhile, the search is on to replace the recently departed JK Simmons and Michael Keaton, who left due to scheduling conflicts. One that is said to be high on the studio wishlist is Russell Crowe, but no deal with him has been struck yet.
Kong: Skull Island opens March 10th 2017.
