Michael Bay tackles the Benghazi attack in First Trailers for '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi'
Michael Bay does a serious real-world geopolitical thriller? It may sound strange for the guy best known for the Transformers franchise and flicks like Bad Boys and Armageddon, but if Bay has tried to make one thing clear in all of his movies it's that he's extremely patriotic. There are no shortage of flag-waving tributes to American exceptionalism every chance Bay gets, and he's looking to show his respect for the men and women of the U.S. military with his new film, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, which deals with the 2012 embassy attack that left killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
The first trailers for the film, including one red band version, have been released and it's Bay looking to balance his penchant for over-the-top action with human drama. The film is reportedly about more than the attack itself, but the security team that fought to defend the embassy, putting their own lives at risk in the sudden battle against Islamic militants. The film stars John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, Pablo Schreiber, Max Martini, and Toby Stephens. Chuck Hogan (The Strain) adapted the book by Mitchell Zuckoff which was co-written by members of the security force.
13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi opens January 15th 2016, and is sure to stir up a wave of controversy one way or another.
