Chris Pine confirmed as Steve Trevor in DC's 'Wonder Woman'

So much for those rumors of Chris Pine playing the next Green Lantern. Pine had been circling the role of Wonder Woman's (Gal Gadot) love interest Steve Trevor in the superheroine's upcoming solo film, but a recent story suggested that it was all just a cover, and that he was actually up for the role of Hal Jordan in a future Green Lantern film. But it turns out the original story was true, and now Pine is officially confirmed as Steve Trevor.

The Wrap broke the news, adding that the Green Lantern reports never had any basis in truth. They add that the Trevor role won't just be Pine snuggling up to Gadot, but that it will include plenty of action, suggesting this version of the character will be more than just a government liaison to Wonder Woman. In the most recent DC Comics, Trevor is a hardened soldier and field agent who is part of the Justice League of America, Team 7, and other superhero teams.

This is probably a better fit overall, anyway. Pine has a lot on his plate, and taking on a role like Green Lantern would require a lot of commitment. Plus, considering Warner Bros. revealed the film will actually be Green Lantern Corps and include a number of GLs, he may actually get a larger presence as part of Wonder Woman. Plus, a character like Trevor could conceivably pop up anywhere, including Suicide Squad.

Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman opens June 23rd 2017, but the character will debut in next year's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
