Michael Chabon and Composer Bret McKenzie join Disney's 'Bob the Musical'; Tom Cruise Still Eyeing Lead

In the works for a decade, Disney's Bob the Musical has attracted a lot of attention over the years without ever getting off the ground. Tom Cruise has been circling the film for awhile now, and The Artist director  Michel Hazanavicius has been attached to helm the feature. The real problem has been in cracking the screenplay, with Allan Loeb, Mike Bender, and John August just a few who have given it a shot. News on the project has been quiet lately, but now it's back on with a brand new composer and screenwriter coming aboard.

THR reports that Bret McKenzie, who did the Oscar-winning music for The Muppets, will compose songs for Bob the Musical. It's an inspired choice given the film centers on a man who suffers a blow to the head, giving him the ability to hear the music in the hearts of those around him, turning his life into a musical. Coming aboard to rewrite the screenplay is another award-winner, Pultzer Prize winning author Michael Chabon, who wrote acclaimed novels such as The Adventures of Kavalier & Clay and Wonder Boys. He previously worked with Disney on the adaptation of John Carter, and he also did some scriptwork on Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2.

Cruise continues to eye a role in Bob the Musical, but it remains to be seen if these latest moves will get the film going.
