Screenwriters of New Spider-Man Film Confirmed; Talk Peter Parker's Sense of Humor

A couple of weeks ago a story emerged that screenwriting duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein were hired to write Marvel and Sony's new Spider-Man. Now, as the pair's Vacation reboot is set to hit theaters in a couple of days, they've confirmed the report to NPR while elaborating on their thoughts about the wallcrawler's comedic style.

Goldstein and Daley previously wrote both Horrible Bosses movies, along with The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. But Daley is also known for his time on the cult favorite series, Freaks & Geeks, and he refers to that experience a little bit while describing his take on Peter Parker's trademark sense of humor...

“He’s a sharp kid and witty and kind of deals with the fact that he’s an outcast and a geek through humor. It is sort of the safety net for geeks like us, so I think we can totally relate to where he’s coming from. As well as the superpowers, which we also have.”

Tom Holland is set to play Marvel and Sony's new Spider-Man, debuting next year in Captain America: Civil War. He'll then move to his own solo movie on July 28th 2017, which will be directed by Jon Watts and co-star Marisa Tomei as Aunt May.
