Tobias Lindholm's last film, A Hijacking, didn't get the attention it deserved, perhaps because it was surrounded by other movies about Somalian pirates. Hopefully the same fate won't befall his next hard-hitting drama, A War, although this first trailer appears to draw inspiration from Kathryn Bigelow in the way it explores the emotional impacts of those in military conflict, only from a Danish perspective.
Reunited with A Hijacking star Pilou Asbaek, the film centers on Claus, a Danish commander stationed in Afghanistan. When his unit comes under heavy Taliban fire, Claus makes a daring decision to save his men that ultimately sees him return to Denmark charged with committing a war crime. The film will also the plight of Claus' wife, who struggles to care for their children while worrying about the fate of her husband.
Set to debut in Venice, A War will be released in the U.S. courtesy of Magnolia Pictures doesn't have an official date.
