'X-Men' and 'Star Wars' Writer Simon Kinberg takes on the 'Logan's Run' Remake
Like the "runners" of the classic sci-fi film, Logan's Run, attempts at a remake simply refuse to die. Ryan Gosling, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Bryan Singer, along with a veritable army of writers, have attempted to get the film going over the years with little success. So Warner Bros. is turning to a guy who has a track record for launching blockbuster properties, Simon Kinberg.
Kinberg, who has his hands in Fox's X-Men and Fantastic Four universes, along with Lucasfilm's Star Wars movies, has been hired to produce and develop a story for the Logan's Run remake. Once completed, he'll hand it over to a screenwriter to tackle next. Presumably the search for a director will begin at that point.
The original 1976 film starred Michael York, Jenny Agutter, and Farrah Fawcett, taking place in a futuristic society that killed off its citizens who hit the age of 30. Those who fought that destiny were deemed "runners", and were tracked down by hunters known as "Sandmen". York played a Sandman who goes on the run himself. [THR]
