Bel Powley replaces Hailee Steinfeld in Coming-of-Age Film 'Carrie Pilby'

This week rising star Bel Powley's breakout performance in The Diary of a Teenage Girl (my Sundance review here) will finally be exposed to a much wider audience, but already Hollywood has taken notice of her talents. She already has a role in the sci-fi romance Equals alongside Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult, and she stars as Princess Margaret in the royal family comedy A Royal Night Out. And now she's lined up what will be her next headlining role in an adaptation of Caren Lissner's coming of age novel, Carrie Pilby.

Powley takes over for Hailee Steinfeld who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Directed by Susan Johnson with Eddie Izzard, Jason Ritter and Tom Wilkinson co-starring, the film centers on 19-year-old genius Carrie Pilby who has just graduated from Harvard and is struggling to fit in with normal society.

While her character in 'Diary' was no genius, she was mature beyond her years and had similar troubles fitting in, so this is a role Powley should be perfectly suited for.
