Charlize Theron hasn't heard anything about Sequel 'Mad Max: The Wasteland'

While George Miller may already have an idea for a Mad Max: Fury Road sequel, revealing the title would be Mad Max: The Wasteland, Warner Bros. hasn't come out and green lit anything just yet. At least critically the film was an unquestioned success, easily one of the best reviewed movies of the year. In terms of box office, that's a bit murkier. The film made $368M with a budget reported at $150M, but there were also a ton of production issues that fouled things up for awhile. Tom Hardy is signed on to return for the next few films, but Charlize Theron has been less vocal about returning for another grueling shoot.

During a conversation with USA Today, Theron doesn't seem to know of any plans for her to comeback as Furiosa, saying "What's 'Wasteland'? This is all news to me. I have not heard anything like that," when asked about the sequel.

She could just be toying with the interviewer, or perhaps Miller really hasn't reached out to her yet. Furiosa was such a large part of the film, arguably greater than Mad Max himself, and moving ahead without her could alienate many of the franchise's new fans.

Theron will be seen next in Gillian Flynn adaptation, Dark Places, opening this week. You can check out my review of that here.
