Extended Editions of Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit' Trilogy coming to Theaters this October
Are you ready to return to Middle Earth? And are you ready to spend even more time there than you did before? If so, then get ready because Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy is returning to theaters, only this time it will be the extended editions.
The Hobbit trilogy will make its way back to theaters this October courtesy of Warner Bros. and Fathom Events. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug, and The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies will be shown beginning on October 5th, but they won't be shown in succession. Instead, it appears that the final two chapters will run on different dates. 'Battle' is slated to run on October 13th while no firm date has been set for 'Desolation'. Here's the official statement on the news:
Fathom Events and Warner Bros. are partnering to present the extended editions of all three Hobbit movies. Shown over three nights, the epic Peter Jackson trilogy will be the first time the extended editions have ever been released in theatres. Also included will be an exclusive introduction by director Peter Jackson. First night showing starts Monday, October 5th, 2015 at 7:30pm local. Tickets will be regular admission prices for each movie.
It's interesting that they're making this move considering the lengthy runtimes of each film, given that they were based on a fairly slim children's novel. Two of the extended editions will run for more than three hours, while the shortest one clocks in at 174 minutes.
And then when it's over you can pre-order the extended version of Battle of the Five Armies which gets a home video release a month later on November 3rd.
