Sometimes HBO's programs are so auteur driven that they can become difficult to sell to mainstream audiences. A series like Treme is a fine example of a good show with a great cast and important subject matter, but people didn't want to settle in for a post-Hurricane Katrina drama. HBO will not have any trouble selling Vinyl to anybody. All they need to say is sex, drugs, rock 'n roll, Mick Jagger, and Martin Scorsese.
After a brief teaser arrived just days ago, an amped up teaser with actual dialogue has just debuted. Penned by Terence Winter (The Wolf of Wall Street) and starring Bobby Cannavale, Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Juno Temple, Max Casella, Jack Quaid, and more, the series is set against the backdrop of the drug-fueled '70s rock music scene. Here's the show's synopsis:
From Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger and Terence Winter, this new 10-episode drama series is set in 1970s New York. A ride through the sex- and drug-addled music business at the dawn of punk, disco, and hip-hop, the show is seen through the eyes of a record label president, Richie Finestra, played by Bobby Cannavale, who is trying to save his company and his soul without destroying everyone in his path.
