First Trailer for James Dean Biopic 'Life' Starring Dane DeHaan and Robert Pattinson

Unsurprisingly, photographer-turned-film director Anton Corbijn's first three features have shown a wonderfully skilled cinematic eye, with each film more beautiful than the last. What wasn't expected is the diverse range of the projects he's chosen to undertake, from a Joy Divsion biopic in Control, a contemplative hitman film in The American, and last year's spy drama, A Most Wanted Man. And now he's changing gears again with Life, a biopic centered on Hollywood icon, James Dean.

While it may seem like a role better suited to Robert Pattinson, it's Dane DeHaan actually starring as Dean, and based on this first trailer he's fitting into the heartthrob's role nicely. The story centers on the friendship between Dean and Life magazine photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson) whose images of the actor helped define his persona.. Here's the official synopsis:

Corbijn’s follow-up to A Most Wanted Man, LIFE captures the nuances and complexities of the relationship between photographer and subject in a way rarely seen or understood by someone outside the business. In a nod to Corbijn’s own past experience, the film is told from the perspective of the Life photographer Dennis Stock (played by Pattinson) who meets and profiles Dean (DeHaan) for the magazine, turning out some of Dean’s most iconic photographs.

Also starring Ben Kingsley, Joel Edgerton, and Alessandra Mastronardi, Life is expected to open this fall.
