Fox's Post-Apocalyptic 'Zorro' Reboot gets New Life

20th Century Fox REALLY wanted to make a Zorro movie, and they gave it a go for a few years. For a while it was Gael Garcia Bernal who was set to don the mask for Zorro Reborn, a futuristic take on the hero for the downtrodden. Despite numerous big name directors being attached at various times, including Bryan Singer, the project went nowhere. But now THR reports the project has found a new home and is back on track.

Fox is out, so it will be Lantica Media and Sobini Films teaming up on what is described as a "post-apocalyptic take on the myth of Zorro". The character debuted in 1919 in the pages of All-Star Weekly and has gone on to be featured in TV, film, books, video games, and more. The character was played by Antonio Banderas in two blockbuster movies in 1998 and 2005.

The search is on for a director and there's no info on a screenwriter, but the plan is to go into production in March 2016.
