John Boyega Enters 'The Circle'; Ving Rhames Joins 'Bastards'
The big roles keep on coming for Attack the Block's John Boyega, and it gives me hope that some day a studio will finally release Imperial Dreams. The Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor will join Tom Hanks and and Emma Watson in The Circle, an adaptation of Dave Eggers' tech thriller directed by James Ponsoldt (The End of the Tour). The story centers on a young woman who joins the Internet giant known as The Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking and purchasing with their universal operating system. Boyega will play Ty, the company visionary who develops a relationship with Watson's character as they navigate the perils of life in a digital age. [Deadline]
Fresh off the action-packed Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation, Ving Rhames is turning to comedy with Bastards, joining Owen Wilson, Ed Helms, JK Simmons, and NFL quarterback Terry Bradshaw. Directed by cinematographer Lawrence Sher (The Hangover) and written by Justin Malen (Bad Teacher 2), the film centers on two siblings who learn the father their mother said was dead is actually alive, so they make it their mission to find him. Rhames will play the ex-teammate of Bradshaw, who the mother says is a possible candidate to be the brothers' real father. Sounds like it should be Dumb & Dumber 3, doesn't it? [Deadline]
