Neill Blomakmp's 'Aliens' Film May be Held Up by Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Sequel
It may be that Neill Blomkamp was unprepared for 20th Century Fox to green light his Aliens sequel, because it sounds like his film is being put on the burner for awhile. The District 9 director jumbled up the franchise a little bit with his proposal for a movie that would be a sequel to Aliens, ignore what came after, and yet not interfere with Ridley Scott's plans for Prometheus 2. But what if Scott's film interferes with Blomkamp?
A rumor over at Bloody Disgusting says Scott has requested to Fox that his Prometheus sequel roll before Blomkamp's Aliens film, and they're willing to let that be the case.
“’Alien 5′ is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea,” says the source. “Blomkamp continues to work on the script (only an outline existed previously) and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on ‘Prometheus 2′ being made first.”
Last we heard Scott was hoping to shoot Prometheus 2 in early 2016, which would make it ready for release in 2017. Bumping Blomkamp's film to 2018 or whenever it's ready would give him time to fine tune the story, which is apparently still being figured out. While Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn are both coming back, reports the story would ignore the latter movies may not be totally accurate. This should also give time for Weaver to figure out her schedule as she's going to have a lot on her plate with multiple Avatar films for James Cameron.
The point is that whatever Blomkamp has going on it's clearly not taken shape yet, and who knows when it will.
