The First Order Assembles in the 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' TV Spot

In a way it's amazing that TV spots for Star Wars: The Force Awakens exist at all, given that any new film in the classic sci-fi franchise is to be considered a special event. On the other hand, it's tempered by the fact that Lucasfilm and director J.J. Abrams aren't going to reveal but so much, and the amount of new footage in the newly-released international spot from South Korea is minimal but should be enough to whet the appetite of Star Wars fans.

Featuring what appears to be a First Order military parade complete with full battalions of Stormtroopers, AT-TE's, and Troop Landers, the footage shown mostly offers glimpses of the new characters in the saga. So we get shots of Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Adam Driver a Kylo Ren, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, plus John Boyega and Daisy Ridley as Finn and Rey. So don't expect to see any of the familiar faces such as Luke Skywaler, Han Solo, or Leia.

Given how secretive Abrams tends to be there may not be many opportunities like this to see new footage, and right now there's no word on when a new trailer will drop. The likelihood is that one will debut at Disney's D23 Expo this weekend but that has yet to be confirmed.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18th.
