Trailer for WWII Comedy 'Dad's Army' with Toby Jones, Bill Nighy, and Catherine Zeta-Jones
British comedy comes in many flavors, from the restrained to the maddeningly clownish. All you probably need to know about the tone of Brit-comedy Dad's Army is that it's directed by Johnny English Reborn's Oliver Parker. So yep, it's pretty silly, but at least the impressive cast appear to be having quite a lot of fun.
Starring Toby Jones, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michael Gambon, Bill Nighy, Daniel Mays, Bill Paterson and Tom Courtenay, Dad's Army is based on the British comedy series and follows members of the Home Guard as they try to find a spy on the loose at the tail end of WWII.
It is 1944 and World War II is reaching its climax. The Allies are poised to invade France and finally defeat the German army. But in Walmington-on-Sea morale amongst the Home Guard is low. Their new mission then – to patrol the Dover army base – is a great chance to revive spirits and reputation, that is until glamorous journalist Rose Winters arrives to write about their exploits, setting the pulses racing and putting the local women on red alert. MI5 then discover a radio signal sent direct to Berlin from Walmington-on-Sea. There’s a spy on the loose! The outcome of the war is suddenly at stake, and it falls to our unlikely heroes to stand up and be counted.
Dad's Army opens in February 2016, and will mark the second time the series has been adapted for the big screen. The first time was a 1971 movie that mostly featured stars of the show.
