Does it seem like everyone you know is suddenly reading Andy Weir's The Martian? That's because they are, in preparation for Ridley Scott's upcoming film starring Matt Damon. Once again he plays an astronaut trapped on a distant planet, only this time he's not completely bonkers, but a skilled scientist using all of his intellectual gifts to survive Mars' harsh climate. Two new trailers have been released for the film which is set to have its world premiere at TIFF next month.
Also starring Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Donald Glover, Mackenzie Davis, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, the film begins after a mission to Mars goes horrible wrong, stranding botanist Mark Watney (Damon) on the "Red Planet". Meanwhile, an effort is mounted on Earth to find a way to retrieve him; an effort that is consistently held up by, what else, politics and red tape.
The Martian hits theaters on October 2nd.
