Willem Dafoe asks 'What Happened to Monday?'; Asa Butterfield, Britt Robertson and More join Sci-Fi Romance
Willem Dafoe has joined Noomi Rapace and Glenn Close in Tommy Wirkola's sci-fi action flick, What Happened to Monday? Written by Kerry Williamson and Max Botkin, the currently-shooting film takes place in a future in which overpopulation has forced the government to institute a severe One-Child policy on families. It's in this society that seven identical sisters, each named after days of the week, live out a hide-and-seek existence by assuming the identity of one person. Their world is turned upside down when Monday never comes home. [Deadline]
Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game), Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland), Gary Oldman (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), and Carla Gugino (San Andreas) are set to star in an untitled sci-fi romance directed by Peter Chelsom, who was last at the helm for Hector and the Search for Happiness. Penned by Alan Loeb (who also wrote San Andreas) and based on a short story, the film centers on two literally star-crossed lovers. Butterfield plays Gardner Elliot, the first human born on Mars, who strikes up an online romance with a girl (Robertson) living in Colorado, and hatches a plan to go and see her. With Earth's gravity threatening his life, Gardner goes on the run with her to find the billionaire who financed the first Mars expedition in hopes of learning about his past. Sounds complicated.
