Ellen Page and Julianne Moore Meet In the First Clip from 'Freeheld'
While the country is obsessed with the actions of a Kentucky clerk's refusal to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples, now is a pretty good time to drop the first clip from gay rights drama, Freeheld. Starring Ellen Page, who recently challenged idiot Senator Ted Cruz on the subject of gay rights, and Julianne Moore, the film is based on the true story Stacie Andree and her partner, New Jersey cop Laurel Hester, who fight to have Stacie receive Laurel's pension after she's diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The film is directed by Peter Sollett (Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist) and written by Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia) with a supporting cast of Michael Shannon, Steve Carell, Josh Charles and Luke Grimes, so this one has talent all across the board. Could it be a sleeper contender in the awards race this year? Sure looks like it. We'll find out when Freeheld opens on October 2nd.
