One of the chief complaints about Divergent is that it was the most low-key of the recent YA field. Not a ton of action to speak of, really, but the sequel, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, cranked it up to 11 as Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) continued to wage a war to unite their fractured world. The result? Insurgent actually performed worse at the box office, which is strange for a series like this, but there's no stopping things now and the trailer for the next film, Allegiant, just arrived.
Picking up where the last film left off, Tris and Four have ventured beyond the wall into uncharted territory, where they begin to uncover the truth about the Faction system that was meant to unite humanity but ended up tearing everything apart. It takes a while for the new footage to start, and mostly it looks a lot like Insurgent, but we have to think it's to maintain some sense of secrecy. There have been some serious deviations from Veronica Roth's novel and that will likely continue here.
Directed by Robert Schwentke with Naomi Watts, Zoe Kravitz, Ray Stevenson, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, Octavia Spencer, Jeff Daniels and more co-starring, The Divergent Series: Allegiant opens March 18th 2016. It will be followed up by Ascendant which opens a year later.
