Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ended on something of a cliffhanger, with Caesar's ape forces gearing up to be confronted by the human military. With the next film titled War of the Planet of the Apes, we're likely to see that battle ensue, and we may have just learned who will be playing a key figure on the human side of that conflict.
Woody Harrelson has been cast as the "villain" in War of the Planet of the Apes. Currently he's known simply as the Colonel, and is expected to be a human foil for Caesar. Gabriel Chavarria was recently cast in the film but THR notes that his role is pretty small. At this point it's unclear who from the previous film will return beyond Andy Serkis, who will again put his performance-capture expertise into play.
Once again directed by Matt Reeves, the film hits theaters on July 14th 2017.
