Rebecca Ferguson Rumored for 'Captain Marvel' Role

For Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson, Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation was the perfect role that connected with just the right audience. By most accounts she stole the show from Tom Cruise herself, and ever since she's been at the top of many fan wish lists for any number of superhero roles. She nearly took one when she was offered a role in Gambit, but turned it down for a high-profile lead in The Girl On the Train, expected to be a huge film next year. But those who want to see Ferguson in a comic book movie could get their wish because Marvel is wants her for the lead in Captain Marvel.

That is the rumor being spread by Heroic Hollywood right now, claiming Ferguson is frontrunner to play Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel in the hero's solo movie. Her only public competition right now appears to be Ronda Rousey, but there's been no comment from Marvel whether they're interested in signing the UFC champ to be part of the MCU. In the past Emily Blunt (also part of The Girl On the Train's cast) has been mentioned for the role but that may no longer be the case.

Writing Captain Marvel is the duo of Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out), while a search for a director is still on. Angelina Jolie is the biggest name linked to the job, but with the film not due out until 2018 it may be some time before anything is confirmed.
