Romance Blooms Between Rooney Mara and Cate Blanchett In Two Trailers for 'Carol'

By now you've probably heard a lot about Todd Haynes' Carol, his adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novel, The Price of Salt. The buzz is only just beginning after rave reviews at Cannes, including a Best Actress victory for Rooney Mara, followed by an impressive showing at Telluride. The fall festival circuit is just beginning and should coincide nicely with the big Academy Awards push The Weinstein Company has planned for it, and now two more trailers have been released to keep the momentum going.

Mara and Cate Blanchett star in the film which has Haynes once again deconstructing the 1950s through the lens of an illicit relationship, just as he did with Far from Heaven. Blacnhett plays a married, high-class woman who falls in love with young store clerk played by Mara, at a time when homosexual relationships were obviously frowned upon.

This is the kind of prestige picture Weinstein lives for this time of year, and they'll push everything else out of the way to make sure Carol gets every bit of the spotlight.  It will also arrive here in the DC area first as part of the Middleburg Film Festival next month, before opening in theaters November 20th.
