Legendary and Universal Pictures say they have every intention of moving forward on Pacific Rim, but for now the film is officially off the schedule. Despite the delay, Guillermo Del Toro has proceeded as if it was a definite, and that apparently includes a bit of dream casting. Del Toro met with Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams and was so impressed by her that he had to tweet about it...
Had lunch with Maisie Williams yesterday. Remarkable. Dammit- if PR2 happens, that girl is getting a Jaeger.

If there's a way to get Williams and Rinko Kikuchi piloting a jaeger together (Charlie Hunnam who?) then dammit, make it so!! What's a little disheartening is the "if PR2 happens" that Del Toro put in there. It shows that maybe he's got some doubts about the film happening. The first film only made $411M worldwide which sounds okay except for the nearly $200M production budget. That puts the studios in a tough spot because a sequel may not do any better, but Del Toro has a huge fan base who happen to be exactly the audience Legendary and Universal want to cultivate. Adding someone like Maisie Williams couldn't hurt, either.
