Leonardo DiCaprio Takes On the Volkswagon Emissions Scandal

A staunch environmentalist and animal rights activist, Leonardo DiCaprio has worked on numerous films dealing with those issues. He's got a number of films on animal poaching on the way, and he's been part of global warming documentaries such as The 11th Hour. It's a pretty good way to use one's star power to draw attention to important causes, and now DiCaprio has found another.

THR reports DiCaprio and his Appian Way banner have picked up the rights to a book on the current Volkswagon emissions scandal. The book will be written by Jack Ewing and investigates how the German car company rigged their diesel vehicles to only meet U.S. emissions standards when being tested. The rest of the time their emissions rates were 40 times higher.

Not exactly the sexiest topic in the world, but if anybody can make it hum it will be DiCaprio. The guy even managed to make driving a Toyota Prius look cool.
