'Road House' Remake with Ronda Rousey Lands 'The Notebook' Director

When you need a director who can handle the emotional complexity and romantic tension of Road House, the obvious choice would be Nick Cassavetes, director of The Notebook. Say what? Well that's what is happening with the upcoming remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic which will star Ronda Rousey. And you know what else? Cassavetes got the job because of The Notebook.

So how in the world does Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams making out in the rain translate to Rousey pummeling a bunch of fat, drunken hayseeds? MGM has an appreciation for Cassavetes' gift for writing strong women, which is why they hired him to take a crack at the screenplay, as well. He also directed the wretched comedy The Other Woman, but at least he didn't write that one.

So when you see "From the director of The Notebook" ahead of trailers for Road House don't be alarmed. It's not a typo. Shooting is being planned for early 2016 after Rousey's next title defense. [Variety]
