Now would have been a perfect time for a reunion between M. Night Shyamalan and Joaquin Phoenix. They worked together on two of the director's earlier, more successful films, and with Shyamalan's
The Visit signaling a comeback it just seemed like the right timing. Earlier this summer we learned
that a third pairing was indeed in the works, but it looks like those plans have fallen through. Fortunately, Shyamalan has found a more-than-capable replacement.
James McAvoy has replaced Phoenix in the upcoming thriller, which will again be produced by the folks at Blumhouse. They backed The Visit for a meager sum and the result has been a strong $67M haul. As for this new film, there aren't any plot details available yet but the script must be good to attract both Phoenix and McAvoy.
Next up for McAvoy is
Victor Frankenstein, due out next month, and then he's got
X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016. [
