Ben Mendelsohn Rumored for 'Justice League Dark' Villain; Aquaman Character to Appear in 'Justice League'

And suddenly there's far more news on Justice League Dark than Zack Snyder's two-part Justice League film. 'Dark' is the film that Guillermo Del Toro had been developing and wrote the screenplay for, centering on a team of heroes who walk DC's supernatural side, battling demons, sorcerers, and other magical villains. For a time it looked like the project was being shelved, at least until Warner Bros. put their superhero universe in order, but with casting rumors emerging it's clear the film has moved up as a high priority.

The latest name being talked about for a role is Ben Mendelsohn, who seems to come up any time there's an opening for a major studio project. He's being rumored for the role of villain Anton Arcane, a Swamp Thing foe who appeared in the 1982 film and video game. Just yesterday Colin Farrell was said to be vying for the role of John Constantine with Monica Bellucci up to play Madame Xanadu and Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing. Mendelsohn is currently filming Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and maybe he'll be all franchised out by then, so we'll just have to wait and see how this goes.

Meanwhile, the site also says that Snyder's Justice League will include Aquaman's lover, Mera, the queen of Atlantis. While this is still just a rumor, of course, it seems a little odd for her not to debut in Aquaman's solo movie, which we know will star Jason Momoa. It's not likely she'd be joining Wonder Woman as the only two females on the team (presumably), and unless there's a specific underwater sequence it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Justice League Dark still has no director or release date, while Justice League Part One opens November 17th 2017. [Heroic Hollywood]
