Netflix and Brad Pitt Board Bong Joon-Ho's Monster Film, 'Okja', with Jake Gyllenhaal

Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-Ho didn't have the best experience with the last American studio he tangled with. The Weinsteins gave him crap over the edit for Snowpiercer, and while he ultimately got what he wanted, the theatrical rollout was weak to say the least, despite it being heralded as one of last year's best movies. So let's hope his next go'round with an American distributor goes much better, as Netflix and Brad Pitt's Plan B are coming aboard his star-studded monster film, Okja.

Netflix has doled out a whopping $50M to finance the film, with Plan  B co-producing, as well. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Bill Nighy, Paul Dano, and Kelly MacDonald, and centers on a Korean girl who befriends the titular creature. This is a smart move for Netflix as they are about to expand into Korea and having a director of Bong's stature will surely help. At $50M Okja already promises to be Bong's biggest and most expensive film to date, with both language in both English and Korean.

Okja begins shooting next year for a debut in 2017.
