Pilou Asbaek is Batou in Live-Action 'Ghost in the Shell'
There's a brand new animated Ghost in the Shell movie opening in U.S. theaters today, which makes this a perfect time for an update on the live-action film that's on the way. With Scarlett Johansson already set to star as the cyborg warrior at the heart of Masamune Shirow's classic anime and manga story, she's now been joined by Danish actor Pilou Asbaek, who she co-starred with in the hit film, Lucy.
Asbaek will be taking on the role of Batou, second in command of the Section 9 elite task force designed to take out the most dangerous cyber-criminals. Asbaek has mostly starred in other Danish films such as A Hijacking (in which he's tremendous, by the way) and Tobias Lindholm's upcoming drama, A War, but he's been making some serious moves on American shores lately. Not only has he booked a major recurring role in Game of Thrones, but he'll play Pontius Pilate on the Ben-Hur remake, as well.
Rupert Sanders is directing Ghost in the Shell to hit theaters on March 31st 2017. [Variety]
