Paramount's animation wing has just put forth an ambitious slate of films all the way through 2019, and one of those that has received a new release date is The Little Prince, which is based on the widely-acclaimed book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Translated and adapted numerous times, the story is a little more mature than your typical kiddie fare, but the latest trailer suggests director Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda) has found a way to make it more accessible for children.
The film features an all-star voice cast led by Mackenzie Foy, James Franco, Rachel McAdams, newcomer Riley Osborne, Jeff Bridges, Marion Cotillard, Benicio Del Toro, Ricky Gervais, Paul Giamatti, and Albert Brooks. It centers on a little girl who uncovers the story of "The Little Prince", about a pilot who crash lands in the Sahara and befriends a young boy who claims to be a prince from a far away asteroid.
The Little Prince opens March 18th 2016, but it's only part of what Paramount has in store for fans of animation. They've set a January 13th 2017 date for Monster Trucks, a live-action/animated hybrid directed by Chris Wedge (Epic) and voiced by Lucas Till, Barry Pepper, Jane Levy, and more.
Elton John's Sherlock Gnomes, the sequel to the surprise hit Gnomeo & Juliet, will open on January 12th 2018. Johnny Depp voices Holmes with James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet.
SpongeBob Squarepants 3 has already been set for February 8th 2019, and this shouldn't be a surprise given the $315M success of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water earlier this year. And a new film, Amusement Park, has been set for March 22nd 2019. Directed by Pixar veteran Dylan Brown, a supervising animator on Ratatouille, the film features the voices of Jennifer Garner, Matthew Broderick, Mila Kunis, Kenan Thompson, Jeffrey Tambor, John Oliver, Ken Jeong and Brianna Denski.
