Oscar Isaac and Alfonso Gomez-Rejon Eye Political Thriller 'A Foreigner'

It's not always easy to walk that balance between studio franchises and more rewarding character dramas. Jennifer Lawrence has done a pretty good job of it, and her X-Men: Apocalypse co-star Oscar Isaac is giving it a shot, too. While he'll be busy for a while with some Star Wars thing, Isaac is also eying the lead role in the political thriller, A Foreigner, which may be directed by Me and Earl and the Dying Girl's Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.

Deals have yet to be solidified with either Isaac or Gomez-Rejon, but both are said to be very interested. And why wouldn't they be? The story is rather incredible, springing from David Grann's New Yorker article about Rodrigo Rosenberg Marzano, a Gutemalan lawyer murdered in 2009, but not before he recorded a video message accusing Alvaro Colom Caballeros, the President of Guatemala, for his death. The resulting firestorm would shake-up the entire Guatemalan government, but it was the investigation's ultimate conclusion that will throw you for a loop. My suggestion is that you not read a word about the case because there are plenty of twists and turns .

Chris Terrio (Argo) wrote the screenplay, and at this point there's no word on when filming could begin. Obviously it will have to wait until Isaac's schedule opens up, but with Star Wars: Episode VIII occupying his time next year it may be a while.
