Universal Wants Angelina Jolie for 'The Bride of Frankenstein'; Still Begging Her to Return for 'Wanted 2'
When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's art-house romance By the Sea opened a couple of weeks ago, it was pretty clear this wasn't a film geared to be a huge hit. And certainly it hasn't been, as it has only earned $930K in barely over a 100 theaters over that time span. But the reason Universal decided to green light the passion project in the first place was to stay in the actress' good graces, and perhaps get her for something bigger....like their remake of The Bride of Frankenstein.
According to THR, the hope by Universal is for her to star in their long-developing redo of the 1935 campy horror, The Bride of Frankenstein. The project has been kicking around for a few years, and most recently had Neil Burger (Divergent) attached, although he's not listed in the current update so that may have changed. Universal is also hoping Jolie can be convinced to return for Wanted 2, although that's a battle they've been fighting with her forever, it seems. She just doesn't have much interest in it.
So would this Bride of Frankenstein be part of Universal's classic monsters franchise along with Dracula Untold, The Mummy, Van Helsing, and others? That's also unclear, but getting someone like Jolie to be part of it would be a big boost.
