'Alien: Covenant' Casts Katherine Waterston As Female Lead

Sometimes all it takes is one role to send a career to the next level. Katherine Waterston found that when she earned a number strong reviews and awards nominations for her performance in Inherent Vice, which at the time was the biggest role of her career. That's way in the rear view now as 2015 saw her starring in Queen of Earth, co-starring in Steve Jobs, and landing her first franchise in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. But she's just getting started now as she's landed the female lead in another potential blockbuster, Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant.

Waterston will play Daniels in the Prometheus sequel, the beginning of a new trilogy that should lead all the way up to Scott's 1979 classic, Alien. She joins Michael Fassbender who is reprising his role as the synthetic, David, who is the sole inhabitant of a remote planet visited by crew of the titular colony ship. Noomi Rapace is also set to return as Elizabeth Shaw but her role is smaller this time. And since the synopsis keeps telling us that David is the only one on this planet, something terrible probably happens to her.

Alien: Covenant opens October 6th 2017. [Deadline]
