How disheartening must it be for Alex Proyas and Lionsgate to already be issuing apologies for Gods of Egypt's lack of diversity? It's going to make the marketing push for the bonkers-looking action flick kind of touchy, especially when star Chadwick Boseman is saying things like this to GQ...
"When I originally was approached with the script, I thought this [critique] might come up, I really did. And I'm thankful that it did, because actually, I agree with it. [But] in the movie, I actually outnumber the other gods in the movie, literally and figuratively. It's hard for people to know that without seeing it. But yeah, people don't make $140 million movies starring black and brown people."
Basically, this thing is a trainwreck and the latest trailer isn't going to help much. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Brenton Thwaites, Elodie Yung, Courtney Eaton, Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush star in the film about a mortal man who enters into a war with the Egyptian gods. Here's the synopsis:
In this spectacular action-adventure inspired by the classic mythology of Egypt, the survival of mankind hangs in the balance as an unexpected mortal hero Bek [Brenton Thwaites] undertakes a thrilling journey to save the world and rescue his true love. In order to succeed, he must enlist the help of the powerful god Horus [Nikolaj Coster-Waldau] in an unlikely alliance against Set [Gerard Butler], the merciless god of darkness, who has usurped Egypt's throne, plunging the once peaceful and prosperous empire into chaos and conflict.
