Richard Linklater Takes On The '80s In The 'Everybody Wants Some' Trailer
When you label a film the "spiritual sequel" to such a seminal work as Dazed and Confused, expectations are naturally going to be very high. But that's what Richard Linklater is facing now with Everybody Wants Some, a film that has undergone a few name changes here and there as Linklater tinkered with its '80s-set premise. The lingering question now that the first trailer has been released is whether it will have as much impact on that era as Dazed and Confused had on the 1970s.
Starring mostly unknowns including Will Brittain, Zoey Deutch, Ryan Anthony Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Blake Jenner, Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell, it's the story of another group of lovable but kinda dorky dudes, the hot girls that are always just out of reach, and the trouble they can get into when combining beer and ping-pong.
Dazed and Confused was the launching pad for a number of today's biggest stars (Matthew McConaughey, anyone?), so there's a good chance a future A-lister in this cast somewhere. My money's on Deutch, who was the one good thing about Vampire Academy.
Everybody Wants Some opens April 15th 2016, but it will debut at SXSW first.
