The deal struck between Sony Pictures and Marvel to bring Spider-Man into the MCU doesn't mean Sony is through with the wallcrawler. Not only are they deeply involved in his upcoming live-action solo film, but they are developing a 3D animated feature from The Lego Movie's Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Obviously, they don't want there to be any confusion between the two films, so the animated version is getting bumped down a few months.
Sony has moved the animated Spidey flick from its previous summer 2018 spot down to December 21st 2018. That's 18 months after the live-action film arrives in July 2017, which should be enough elbow room. Details on either film are still scarce and will likely wait until the character officially re-debuts in Captain America: Civil War. Lord and Miller will direct and work on the story that will not be set inside the MCU like the live-action film will be.

Oh, and remember that stupid Emoji movie? It's coming on August 11th 2017.
