Ben Affleck Talks Batman's Cameo In 'Suicide Squad' As New Team Photo Debuts

When Marvel first began their gigantic cinematic universe, one way they helped build it was through Robert Downey's Iron Man. The character's appearances in other films helped forge those links that eventually led up to The Avengers, and helped give fans a sense of unpredictability. You never knew who could show up next. Warner Bros. taking a page out of Marvel's book with their use of Batman, who will debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and then eventually in Justice League. But he'll make stops elsewhere, including an important cameo in Suicide Squad.

A new photo from the antihero film has been released by USA Today, and while it doesn't feature Ben Affleck anywhere, the actor opened up a little about taking part in DC's expanded superhero universe...

“It felt like I have such a cool cousin. This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it started to feel like a constellation of things, and I’ve never had that feeling.”

And Affleck was apparently put through the paces while on set as director David Ayer says Batman is part of a fight scene...

“We made him fight. He’s awesome (as Batman). … You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.”

Batman is said to be one of the major reasons the Suicide Squad comes together in the first place, which makes sense considering they are comprised of at least two of his major enemies: the Joker, played by Jared Leto, and Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie. As for Leto's performance as the "Crown Prince of Crime, Ayer says he's "the king of Planet Joker."

Suicide Squad opens on August 5th.
