Michael Bay's movies are nearly always about selling something. In the case of his Transformers movies it was about selling loads of action figures. But his latest film, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, is about selling a story that is unquestionably false. The film, which chronicles the attack on the CIA base on September 11th 2012 by Islamic insurgents, is pushing a theory that has long been debunked but some hope will be revived in time for the Presidential elections. In fact, Fox News' Megyn Kelly openly hoped for it, stating on her show last week that "The film is introduced as a true story and reintroduces Benghazi as a potential campaign issue that cannot be helpful to Mrs. Clinton." She said this while all of the guys who want to portray themselves as action heroes were sitting around pumping themselves up.
So as the new trailer for the film hits ahead of press screenings tomorrow, it's no wonder that Paramount has been keeping details of the plot under wraps. Perhaps because the film isn't at all true and they don't want to be backed into any corners? John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, and more play six members of an elite security team who did "what was right" when the diplomatic compound was attacked. Yeah, that's pretty much all the synopsis says. Fact-checkers,get ready for a long week.
